for Licensed Therapists Utilizing PsyTechVR for CBT
PsyTechVR, in collaboration with CBT training professionals, establishes the following certification standards to ensure ethical, effective, and clinically sound use of virtual reality in therapeutic settings. All licensed therapists must meet the criteria below to be certified as a PsyTechVR-Certified VR CBT Practitioner.

Eligibility Requirement

  • Must be a licensed mental health professional (e.g., LCSW, LMHC, LPC, PhD, PsyD, or equivalent in your country/state).
  • Must be in good standing with relevant licensure boards or regulatory authorities.
  • Must have foundational knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Required Training Modules

1. PsyTechVR Application Certification (2 Hours)

Hands-on technical training in how to operate and integrate PsyTechVR into a clinical setting.

Topics Covered:
  • Account setup and user onboarding
  • Navigating the clinician dashboard and patient profiles
  • Selecting and customizing VR environments (phobias, GAD, PTSD, social anxiety, etc.)
  • Using AI-powered scenario personalization
  • Collecting and interpreting in-session feedback
  • Safety protocols and session management

Assessment:
  • Completion of interactive tutorials
  • A passing score of 80% or higher on a technical proficiency quiz
  • Submission of a mock session plan using PsyTechVR

2. Best Practices for Applying VR in CBT (4 Hours)

Clinically grounded instruction on how to ethically and effectively integrate VR into CBT sessions.

Topics Covered:
  • Overview of exposure therapy and VR’s role in treatment
  • Ethical and safety considerations in immersive therapy
  • Addressing client comfort, consent, and readiness
  • Structuring CBT interventions around VR scenarios
  • Recognizing adverse reactions or overexposure
  • Monitoring progress and outcomes over time

Assessment:
  • Participation in case study discussions
  • A written reflection or brief clinical implementation plan
  • Completion of a final exam (minimum 80% passing grade)

Certification Requirements Checklist

Upon Certification, Clinicians Will Receive:

  • A PsyTechVR-Certified CBT Practitioner Certificate (valid for 2 years)
  • Access to the PsyTechVR Clinician Portal
  • Updates, continuing education invites, and access to premium features
  • Permission to list certification on professional directories or practice websites

Renewal Requirements (Every 2 Years):

  • Minimum of 4 hours of continuing education on PsyTechVR platform updates or immersive therapy techniques
  • Confirmation of continued licensure
  • Re-attestation to ethical and technical standards

Ethical Considerations

All certified therapists using the PsyTechVR Mental Health and Wellness Application agree to adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards when incorporating virtual reality into therapeutic practice. As part of certification, each clinician must:

Uphold Professional Conduct

  • Deliver therapy in accordance with their professional licensing board’s code of ethics (e.g., APA, NASW, NBCC, or equivalent).
  • Use VR as a clinical tool only within the boundaries of their competence and training.

Obtain Informed Consent

  • Clearly explain the use of virtual reality in therapy to clients, including its purpose, risks, and benefits.
  • Document informed consent specifically for the use of PsyTechVR within treatment plans.

Protect Client Safety and Comfort

  • Continuously monitor clients for signs of discomfort, dissociation, or adverse reactions during VR sessions.
  • Provide clear opt-out options and alternative interventions when appropriate.
  • Never coerce or pressure clients into using VR.

Maintain Privacy and Confidentiality

  • Comply with all applicable privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) when storing, transmitting, or accessing client data within the PsyTechVR system.
  • Ensure that VR sessions take place in a private, secure, and professionally appropriate environment.

Avoid Misrepresentation

  • Accurately present the scope, limitations, and capabilities of PsyTechVR to clients and colleagues.
  • Do not make unsupported clinical claims about outcomes or benefits.

Use Technology Responsibly

  • Do not use PsyTechVR for personal entertainment, marketing stunts, or demonstrations outside the clinical scope unless explicit written client permission is obtained.
  • Refrain from sharing access credentials or session data with unauthorized individuals.

Report Misuse or Concern

  • Promptly report any ethical violations, technical malfunctions affecting client safety, or unauthorized access to PsyTechVR systems to the appropriate supervisory or regulatory body.
