World Conference 2025

The ACBS World Conference 2025 in New Orleans showcased practitioners who are committed to making a difference through evidence-based approaches to mental health treatment. PsyTech VR was sharing with attendees from around the world how VR exposure therapy can transform CBT treatment for anxiety, phobias, OCD, PTSD, and other conditions.

Who Was There

PsyTech VR had the privilege of being represented by its advisory board members, Dr. Gwilym Roddick and Dr. Melanie Smith. Both Dr. Roddick and Dr. Smith spent time with clinicians, researchers, and educators at the event, engaging in conversations about how VR can help make therapy come alive in exciting, accessible, and effective new ways. They also conducted multiple VR therapy demos for the participants.

What We Exhibited

PsyTech VR had a booth at ACBS 2025 where attendees had the opportunity to learn about PsyTech VR’s platform, personally try it and learn how mental health professionals use our VR scenes for structured, evidence-based exposure therapy. We emphasized clinical use cases for:
  • Phobias
  • Anxiety and Stress Disorders
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Addictions and Anger Management
PsyTech VR was developed based on science-backed usage protocols to make it easy and clinically sound for mental health professionals to integrate VR into their practice.

Teaching the Value of VR

While traditional exposure therapy is effective, it also comes with some limitations. Logistical challenges, imagination-dependence, and safety concerns are just some of the reasons why VR is such a great solution for making exposure therapy even better. Dr. Roddick and Dr. Smith spent time with the audience explaining that by providing:
  • Customizable, controlled environments
  • Repeatable, measurable sessions
  • Increased client engagement and tracking of progress
  • PsyTech VR can help address some of the limitations of exposure therapy in the “real world.”

Key Takeaways

The response from attendees at ACBS was very encouraging. Many people approached our team members to share their excitement about using VR to help their CBT treatment be even more effective and engaging, with the potential to help more people have access to evidence-based care. In addition, we were able to begin conversations with other professionals at the conference about research collaboration and training opportunities in the future.
It was inspiring to see so many clinicians eager to integrate VR technology into their practice after experiencing firsthand the power of this cutting-edge technology. At ACBS 2025, we were able to show how VR can take exposure therapy beyond imagination—into structured, immersive, and personalized environments that empower both therapists and clients. PsyTech VR is helping us reimagine what’s possible in evidence-based mental health care.
